December 1st 2017 Adèle van Rijckevorsel passed away at 96 years of age in her home in The Hague.

She was a dear friend of Constant and they were in a relationship from about 1979 till 1991. Had she accepted his proposal, she would have been his wife.

Adèle was an important influence on Constant and his work. She worked relentlessly to promote his work, organize exhibitions at her house and mediated numerous sales of his work to her network. She was one of his personal advisors till his passing in 2005.

How can you create art with the history of your collection? This might be the question that the staff of Museum Van Abbe in Eindhoven asked itself. The result is a room with three walls covered with a beautiful pattern showing all the works the museum loaned out over the last 25 years organised according to the year they were aquired. The empty spaces on the wall are symbolic of the works in the collection that have not been loaned out.

Rijskmuseum @Schiphol

The Rijksmuseum is back at the Holland Boulevard at Schiphol airport and to celebrate that they had the highlights of the collection pass tourist by on the luggage belts for a week in September. Constant's Ruimtecircus, 1956, was amongst them.

Schiphol is the only airport in the world that has original 17th century art at the terminal. You can find the Holland Boulevard on the first floor between lounge 2 and 3 after security. The exhibition is free, open 24/7 and can be entered from two sides.

Art Review-October 2017

Both the Situationists International and Constant get a spot in the limelight in Art Review vol 69, no 7. McKenzie Wark dissects whether the Situationists are still relevant in his article 60 Years of Recuperation on page 74-79. Followed by an interview from 2003 with Constant by Mark Rappolt on page 80-85. Both articles flanked by beautiful images.

After a lovely stroll through the wonderful exhibitions, Anton Heyboer and Art Deco Paris, at the Gemeentemuseum today I sneaked a peek at the museum's continuous collection exhibit Ontdek het moderne.

Manifesto, 2015

This weekend the Video installation Manifesto by Julian Rosenfeldt premieres at Cinema De Balie in Amsterdam. Cate Blanchet plays the lead in 13 different shorts which are each based on artist manifestos. One of the shorts is based on Constant's Manifesto for the Experimental Group  in 1948. Can you spot which one?
Whether the artist manifests are done justice by this portrayal remains to be seen but Cate Blanchet is for sure worth watching.
