Constant, Graveur

2004

The book was presented at the exhibition Constant, graficus at the Cobra museum of modern art in Amstelveen from February 27th to April 15th, 2004.

The book covers the period 1949-1994 and shows a development synchronous with his entire oeuvre. An oeuvre in which there is room for social engagement. In addition to suffering and oppression, the Homo Ludens, the playful, free and creative person is a subject in his art. The techniques Constant uses vary from etching, dry needle to lithography, while the latter work consists mainly of softly colored aqua tones. A total of 181 works are depicted including series such as La Guerre, New Babylon and Plaisir et Tristesse de L'amour, in color and superior quality. With a contemplative text by Philippe Dagen (art historian at Le Monde), an extensive and illustrated biography and the usual lists. (Review by Han Kobes on Bol.com)
