Circa 1980.
On the back: Voor Constantijn van Constant 31-8-1988 (To Constantijn from Constant 31-8-1988)
Constant's house on the Kromme Waal was very close to the Amsterdam Red Light District, an area that suffered from a huge drug problem in the 1980's. This poignant image arose after Constant encountered one of the many heroin-addicted sex workers in his neighbourhood.

There are two different origin stories accompanying this painting. According to the art dealer Nico Delaive, Constant got his inspiration in 1979 when he paid Delaive a two month visit in Italy. One day, Constant saw a bridal couple sitting at a large table with guests. He later declared to Delaive that this scene had formed the basis for the painting.
