On seeing Constant's painting L'inondation one of our visitors pointed out a striking resemblance to the painting The Dog by Goya. Both painters were in their mid seventies when they painted these dogs who are obviously in distress.

It's always flattering when people notice your work. Of course in our case our work is in service of Constants work, which obviously gets noticed now and then and that suits us just fine. But that one moment that not just his work but our work gets mentioned it is fun nevertheless.

Last week we shared our plans for Constant 1 0 1. We are happy and proud to announce the Advisory Board of the project. From now till the roll-out of the project they will reflect on the plans and content from their field of expertise.

For a while we have been thinking about a way to celebrate the fact that next year it will be 100 years ago since Constant was born. How do you celebrate the life of an artist, whose work still resonates so freely with the world we live in today? Figuring out the answer to this question was a lively journey that I, Kim van der Horst, made, joined by curator, Zippora Elders.


Every year Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and BankGiro Loterij award the Museumpijs to a museum with a stellar performance in that category. This year the category is most public-friendly museum and Stedelijk Museum Schiedam is amongst the three nominees. The other two museums are Museum Rotterdam and het Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven.

All though nowhere on Wikipedia it says that the movie Playtime by French filmmaker Jacques Tati refers to Constant's New Babylon project, the film poster does bear a close resemblance to several of Constant's constructions and drawings of New Babylon.


With a valediction called Beginning and the End. About striving for a better grip on life university last Friday professor and member of the board of Fondation Constant, Paul Schnabel, said farewell to Utrecht University, where he was professor since 1986. For the special contribution he made to Utrecht University over his long career Paul Schnabel was awarded the silver medal. In the beautiful ancient university aula next to the Domtower in Utrecht we celebrated his new life phase.

On a Saturday afternoon my brother, my niece and I walked through the Gemeentemuseum. In every room my niece would pick one piece that was her favourite. And we would take note of this for future birthday gifts. Attracted by the bright pink objects (her favourite colour) she ran into the Sam Samiee installation with the beautiful title De Liefde raakte ontheemd, het verstand ernaar op zoek (Love became displaced, the mind in search of it).

July 2017 room 419, titled Drifts and Camps: On Situationist Utopian Urbanism was inaugurated in the context of the permanent collection (Collection 2) of Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. In this room Constant’s work acquires an important role and is displayed in dialogue with the works of other artists such as Asger Jorn, Pinot Gallizio, or Piero Simondo.
