Monument voor de wederopbouw (Monument for the Reconstruction) was a temporary installation on the ground of E55 in Rotterdam. On May 18, 1955, Queen Juliana gave a speech at the opening of the E55 exhibition in Rotterdam, in which she expressed gratitude for the progress made in the ten years since the Second World War and the North Sea Flood of 1953. The exhibition, also known as the National Energy Event, aimed to showcase the Dutch people's industriousness and zest for life as they rebuilt their country.

After the dissolution of CoBrA, Stephen Gilbert, a fellow member of the movement, went on to experiment with abstract shapes in space that resulted in metal space constructions. Constant was going through a similar development and it was Gilbert who motivated him to start working in 3D — the result was this work. It led to an intensification of their contact.
