Only a few years later he became ill and was taken to the sanatorium of Silkeborg where he wrote his central work on aesthetics and philosophy “Held og Hasard” (1951–52). He said of this work: “Denne bog handler om det ophøjede, længslen mod det høje” (“This book deals with the sublime, the longing for the elevated”). Van de Loo # 123.
