The 'Utrecht' shelf was part of a commission by designer Martin Visser for Spectrum. The relationship between Constant and Visser goes back to at least 1948, when Visser, who at the time worked at department store De Bijenkorf, organised an exhibition with works by the artists of the Dutch Experimental Group (Nederlands Experimentele Group), the Dutch prelude to the CoBrA group.

Decorontwerp voor ballet "Het Proces"
Designed by Anton Rooskens and Constant, commissioned by Het Nederlands Ballet (The Dutch Ballet, known today as Nationale Opera en Ballet). Het proces [The Trial] was choreographed by Jaap Flier and was his first ballet. The ballet was danced on music by Jan Mul and inspired by Franz Kafka's novel of the same name. The world premiere was on January 20th, 1955 at the Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague.
