Exhibtion description by the gallery:
On 9 October, at 6 pm, an important exhibition dedicated to this international artistic group was inaugurated in Turin, in via Bonafous 7 / L, at the Biasutti & Biasutti Gallery, "CoBrA". The abbreviation is made up of the first letters of the names of the cities to which the individual artists belong: Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam. Born in Paris in 1948, where the poet Christian Dotremont theorizes movement, he gathered painters interested in a reinterpretation of expressionism in an informal key. Opposing to any form of cultured or academic art, but also geometric and constructivist abstractionism, the artists of the group favored a fabulous vein, which has many points of contact with art brut. Thirty works that highlight the use of saturated colors and violent brushstrokes, typical of popular, ethnic and primitive traditions. The group broke up in 1951, but the various exponents individually continued their experiments.
