Writer/poet K. Schippers shares his memories about architects and artists surrounding Theo van Doesburg, founder of De Stijl.
Quote from the article about the Cobra exhibition in 1949 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam:
Even at the construction of the big Cobra-exhibition in Amsterdam in 1949 Van Doesburg played a part. [Aldo] Van Eyck hung the paintings of Constant and the others up on the wall like they were parts of a Stijl-composition, high, really low or in the middle. That way Cobra became part of "the great gang" en De Stijl sneaked into the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam even before the big retrospective in 1951.
