Catalog of a key exhibition Westkunst. Zeitgenössische Kunst seit 1939, co-curated by Glozer and Kaspar König, Kölnermessehallen, Cologne (30.05–16.08.1981), showing ‘800 works by 200 artists.’ The curators selected (somewhat controversially) the year 1939 as a starting point from which to explore contemporary artistic developments in ‘western’ art’s relationship with the modern and modernism. Major chapters of the catalog are titled: The World War and the Modern, Abstraction as World Language, Between Progress and Refusal. Exhibited artists represented a vast range of positions including: Jean Arp, Max Beckmann, Günter Brus, Joseph Beuys, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Constant, Joseph Cornell, Jean Fautrier, Jasper Johns, Paul Klee, Roberto Matta, Piet Mondrian, Henry Moore, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, Claes Oldenburg, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Man Ray, Mark Rothko, Kurt Schwitters, Dorothea Tanning, Wolf Vostell, Wols, etc.
