Le tribunal
Inspired by the mock trial of Nicolae Ceaușescu on the 25th of December 1989 internationally broadcasted on television. After the trial the General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party and his wife were quickly executed. Constant dated the painting 1989, however, since the trial was held on the 25th of December of that year it is more likely that the painting was finished in 1990.
Prometheus
Prometheus stole fire from the Gods on the Olympus and gave it to the humans. He was punished for his hubris. Zeus chained him to a rock where an eagle (emblem of Zeus) came and picked out his liver. Every day the liver grew back and the torture would repeat.

Orpheus [III]
Orpheus (/ˈɔrfiəs, ˈɔrfjuːs/; Greek: Ὀρφεύς) was a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion and myth. The major stories about him are centered on his ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music, his attempt to retrieve his wife, Eurydice, from the underworld, and his death at the hands of those who could not hear his divine music.
