In May 1949, Matie van Domselaer left Constant for Asger Jorn during their stay in Bornholm, at Asger’s house. She took their two daughters, Martha and Olga, leaving their son Victor, then 4½ years old, with Constant. In the period that followed, Constant created several iconic paintings processing his heartbreak.
