Das Prinzip Hoffnung
Aspekte der Utopie in der Kunst und Kultur des 20. Jahrhunderts
1983
Das Prinzip Hoffnung* was the opening exhibition of the newly added building of Kunstmuseum Bochum.
*Das Prinzip Hoffnung is the main work of the German philosopher Ernst Bloch (1885–1977). It was written between 1938 and 1947 in exile in the USA. Originally it was going to be called The dreams of a better life. It was published in several volumes from 1954, first in the GDR and in 1959 by the Suhrkamp publishing house. Since then, the term “Principle of Hope” has become a household word in the German feature pages.
