The Unexpected contained circa 150 works of 40 international reknown artists.
Almost all participating artists are know as painter, sculptur en conceptual artist. Working in clay offers the opprtunity to create the illusion of space on the flat surface immediately. Therefore cera,mics is sometimes considered as a sort of sculpting but the quality is in the unique combination of the plastic as the pictoral of paiting as well as sculpting.
The exhibition is divided into three parts: the Classic
De tentoonstelling bestond uit drie delen: classic modern with amongst others Braque, Chagall, Dufy, Fontana, Van der Leck, Miró, Picasso, Rouault; the CoBrA artists Appel, Constant, Jorn, Lucebert and Rooskens and contemporary artists with amongst others Andriesse, Birza and Cragg to Förg, Geelen, Penck, Steinbach and Tapiès. The oldest piece, by Renoir, dates from 1905/06 and the most recent, by Richard Deacon, is from 2008.
