Constant with his grandmother, Constantine Eugénie Clazine Petronelle De Kokelaer Bouwens, known as Constance, ca 1923. Constant was named after his grandmother, from paternal side.

According to Constant the photographer had given him a teddy bear and a dinky toy to pose with. Constant had thrown both toys in the corner and pointed at a book. After the photographer had given it to him, he posed quietly for the photo.
