“It is obvious that a person free to use his time for the whole of his life, free to go where he wants, when he wants, cannot make the greatest use of his freedom in a world ruled by the clock and the imperative of a fixed abode. As a way of life Homo Ludens will demand, firstly, that he responds to his need for playing, for adventure, for mobility, as well as all the conditions that facilitate the free creation of his own life. 'De Stad' als Nieuw Babylon

2016
CID: 2229
Part of my work is humanising technique, like New Babylon (1959-1974) by Constant. According to Constant technique is not an alienating mode but a way to bring man closer to its nature. Homo ludens. After Constant's vision I tried to give the viewer an impression that New Babylon exists. I showed the work on a multi screen video. On the old black and white TV one could see the images of labour and the visions on technique from the past. On the projection one could see images of modern day, modern science fiction and last the image of New Babylon over Groningen.

Constant. New Babylon. To Us Liberty

2016
CID: 2006
An open city without borders that is capable of flowing out in all directions to allow its residents to develop as freely as they do flexibly. This fascinating utopia of architectural and lifeworld growth forms the starting point of Constant’s (1920–2005) lifelong project: New Babylon. Between 1956 and 1974, the Dutch painter and co-founder of the avant-garde movement COBRA worked on numerous models, paintings, drawings, and collages for the purpose of depicting his vision of the nomadic city of the future.

Constant. Spelen in Nieuw Babylon

2016
CID: 2008
